Meet the team
Katherine Yang
Co-Founder/ President
My name is Katherine Yang, the Co-Founder and alumna of PlogGo. With few opportunities to go outside from quarantining and staring at a computer screen for over 10 hours from online school, I noticed myself becoming lethargic. While searching for ways to stay energetic, I came upon an activity called plogging. The name immediately intrigued me. When I learned more about plogging I was inspired. If I was going to get exercise outside, why not also pick up the surrounding litter harming nature? Thus, I started this club with the goal where not only would members as a community get exercise but also positively affect the environment. Knowing it would be difficult to gather a large group to go plogging, as we are still in the middle of a pandemic, I started with a small group in Northern Virginia. We plan to encourage our NOVA community to reduce littering and spread awareness on the importance of keeping our environment clean while also promoting the benefits of staying active.
Matthew Lee
Co-Founder/ Operations and Web manager
I’m Matthew Lee and I am a Co-founder and the Public Relations Manager of PlogGo. Looking for extra activities during COVID-19 and wanting a reason to get outside, this club was just perfect. Over this horrible pandemic, we had to adapt to some of these major issues such as no in-person connection, having to quarantine, and learning online. Looking around at each person’s community we noticed extensive amounts of garbage being left there to rot. Combining all the reasons and situations, we made PlogGo. In the future, we plan to go around Fairfax county and make it a whole lot cleaner. By getting exercise while protecting our community, we will also be able to reduce damage to the ozone layer and keep all the trash from doing even more damage. In our club’s full effect we will reduce pollution stay healthy and help different communities improve their neighborhoods.
Jason Yoo
Co-founder/ Research and Content Manager
As someone who loves to be outside and better the environment, I knew plogging was the right choice for me. My name is Jason Yoo, and I am a Co-founder and Researcher for PlogGo. Our overall goal for these following years is to help reduce the amount of pollution within our communities, and hopefully influence others to do the same. Naturally, starting PlogGo came with certain difficulties due to COVID-19. We had to adapt to many issues, including limited communication and the closure of certain public spaces. However, as we started to look towards future plans, we started to brainstorm ways we could still help our community without risking the safety of ourselves as well as others. Plogging is not only a safe way to clean up trash and help the environment, but also a way for members to better themselves through exercises and nature walks. According to many scientists, nature walks not only help burn calories but also decompose stress and boost mental health. This is why our team has focused on plogging all over parts of Northern Virginia, in hopes of helping our communities grow in multiple aspects.
